Founder

Star

Star founded Babies of Homelessness in 2016 and built an amazing team of volunteers and Board of Directors to assist in implementing her vision.

Star is a mother of two boys, Jayden and Dominic, and wife to Christian. As a family, they enjoy doing anything outdoors: RV’ing, kayaking, and traveling abroad.

Our Team
Chair

Cindy

Cindy is a long-time Washington resident and is happily retired from the corporate world. She joined Babies of Homelessness in 2018 and has found the experience rewarding. She is currently Chair after having served as Marketing Director and Vice Chair. She is the parent of four adult children.

She says, “Volunteering at Babies of Homelessness gives me an opportunity to change people’s lives, including my own.”

Vice-Chair

David

With over 25 years as a HR professional, spanning several Fortune ranked companies, David has skillfully blended his traditional and non-traditional background to partner with and empower the workforce to perform at their highest level. He is currently at Micron Technology, Inc.

David has been an avid practitioner of hot vinyasa yoga since 2006 and earned his certification to teach in 2010. A dedicated student and community builder at heart, David hosts yoga focused charity events to raise money for organizations such as Mary’s Place, Seattle Children’s Hospital and Bellevue LifeSpring, to name a few.

David’s training and dedication to yoga has been the foundation for what loves most, which is being in service of people. Born in Chicago, Illinois, educated at both Florida A&M and George Washington University. He is a dutiful veteran of the U.S. Navy, and the proud father of two children, David, II (age 20) and Nadia (age 16).

Treasurer

Timmy

Timmy is a 20+ year transplant from Ireland to Washington state. He is an FCCA (equivalent to a CPA) and is in love with all things math. OK, perhaps not in love, but he’s proud of his intimate relationship with numbers.

Timmy volunteers with BoH because he believes that the circumstances that one is either born into or comes into later in life should not dictate one’s whole life experience. We must work to lift those around us up and out of their circumstances, no matter the reason why they came to be in those circumstances.

Secretary

Molly

Molly has spent the last two decades in the non-profit sector working to help build more equitable systems for families in our community. From her work on reproductive justice and early childhood education, to issues of homelessness and housing rights, Molly has endeavored to ensure that families in our community have the support and resources that they need to thrive. Molly is also a dedicated mother, which has given her a deeper level of compassion and drive to support this critical work.

Board Director

Petra

Petra is a seasoned healthcare leader and visionary business strategist with a decade-long journey in driving public health advancement. With a passion for transforming the lives of underserved families by tackling disparities and access deserts, Petra possesses a remarkable track record of orchestrating impactful strategies, cross-functional collaboration, and advancing policies.

As Assistant Director at the University of Oklahoma, she championed legislative change, managed budgets, optimized clinical productivity, and collaborated with healthcare providers to significantly influence maternal child outcomes.

Her role as Director of Nutrition and Family Services at the Seattle Indian Health Board showcased her prowess in merging qualitative and quantitative research to empower communities through culturally competent campaigns. Recognized for her healthcare advancement efforts, Petra’s tenure has solidified strategic partnerships and laid the foundation for sustainable policy shifts. Armed with a Masters of Dietetics with a public health focus and a Bachelors in Business Communications and Advertising, Petra Colindres is dedicated to creating a positive impact in the healthcare landscape.

Board Director

Megan

Megan is a proud Southerner and long-time WA-transplant whose calling and career have both focused on education, mediation, and equity. A proud plant mom, human and pup Auntie, and recently certified paralegal, she supports affordable housing initiatives as well as several child welfare programs across the PNW, from CASA to Amara. Her belief is that impacting the intersectional barrier of limited children’s resources with parents facing homelessness is a mission needing urgent solutions. By joining the Babies of Homelessness Board, she’s honored to lend her skills and energy to answer unmet community needs so families can gain the security they deserve.

Board Director

Andrea

Andrea’s journey with children and families experiencing socio-economic stress began years ago. After teaching in diverse settings, she took a hiatus to raise three children and expand her volunteer experiences. One of her favorite roles was leading groups for first time parents through Program for Early Parent Support (PEPS). Her interest in education led her to serve on the Board of Mercer Island Schools Foundation.

She spent the past four years at Kindering Center as the Families in Transition Program Coordinator and as a home visitor with Parent Child Plus. While at Kindering, she connected with Babies of Homelessness and learned about its dedication to meeting the urgent needs of local families. Her recent work encouraged her to return to school for a Masters in Child and Adolescent Psychology so she could fulfill a dream to work in community mental health with parents and young children. She is thrilled to join this dynamic board and support the mission and growth of Babies of Homelessness.

Board Director

Phillip

Phillip is a passionate nonprofit executive based in Ballard, Seattle, Washington. Currently holding the position of Executive Director at Renewal Food Bank in Bellevue, Washington, Phillip has dedicated 12 years to nonprofit leadership. His previous leadership roles include Neighborhood Associates, an affordable housing nonprofit in Washington, DC; and Teen Feed, a food justice threshold nonprofit in Seattle. He is a founding board member of KIP for Change, a nonprofit that aims to help at-risk individuals avoid both short-term and generational homelessness. He joined the board of Babies of Homelessness in 2022. In his down time, he enjoys volunteering with political or animal rights organizations, hosting dinner parties, going on ski trips, and avidly reading history and the news.

Board Director

Neal

Neal has decades of experience in the nonprofit world at various organizations including ones that focus on mental health needs as well as antipoverty initiatives. Neal is a strong believer in social justice and is invested in working towards more equitable systems. As a dad of two wonderful children, Neal was drawn to the mission of Babies of Homelessness, and how we all collectively need to work to address the needs of the most vulnerable in our communities.

Achim
Board Director

Achim

Achim has held leadership positions in the tech sector in the US and Europe for the last three decades. He led product marketing for billion-dollar divisions at Microsoft and managed large, groundbreaking e-business programs at Intel. Achim joined the Babies of Homelessness board in 2023 to make a pragmatic and meaningful contribution to local families in need. He lives in the Seattle area with his wife, their two kids and two labs.

Executive Director

Katie

Katie joined the Babies of Homelessness team in 2017 as an Intake Volunteer, then served as a Committee Chair and as a Board Member and as our first Program Director, overseeing the Intake and Outreach programs. As an educator for several years and a mother of two daughters, Katie has always had a passion for advocating for families and children. This is what originally brought her to Babies of Homelessness, but the importance of the mission and the families we serve have only added to her dedication to the organization over the years.

Program Manager

Rosa

Rosa has been a mother and a childcare provider for more than 22 years. Now that her own children are older, she has the time to make a difference in other children’s lives. Helping others, especially children, brings her fulfillment and joy!

Rosa has volunteered for Babies of Homelessness for several years and is now thrilled to be an employee. As the Field Operations Manager, she looks forward to helping the organization grow and reach even more children.

Warehouse Associate and Driver

Fernando

Fernando is a part-time Warehouse Associate and Driver on the BoH team. He helps deliver essentials to families in need, and also helps reach and connect with the Latino community (he’s bilingual, Spanish and English). Fernando enjoys participating in diaper drives, too. He loves getting to interact with everyone involved, as most are very kind and supportive. He is always amazed at how well the fundraising turns out. Working for BoH is a great way for him to connect the organization with more Latino people in the community. He is dad of two with a daughter attending university and a son in high school. His family are his major inspiration to try new things and work hard every day. His main job is working the swing shift as a CNC operator in manufacturing. Together with his wife, Fernando is trying to set a good example for his kids, and in the near future they are hoping to bring them aboard to volunteer for Babies of Homelessness.

A funny thing about Fernando: he’s addicted to bicycles, and currently owns 12! He does actually use all of them, and can’t wait for the weather to be better so he can ride them all.
